What to Do When Visiting Hawaii

Oahu is the third largest island within the Hawaiian islands and its area is 596 square miles. It is toward the top of the Hawaiian islands and houses almost 1 million residents. It is known as the gathering place of the islands, and also is the location of Honolulu, Hawaii’s capital city. It is also home to Pearl Harbor, a popular tourist spot because of its history with World War II, and in 2006 was the spot of devastating 6.7 scale earthquake, which caused a wide power outage and more than $200 million worth of damages across the island. It has a very tropical climate and is home to many rain forests. It has also been the filming location for many popular films.

One of the main sources of income for Hawaii is tourism. There are hundreds of activities to be done on each island, including snorkeling, golfing, surfing, hiking, and other outdoor activities. Additionally, each island offers plenty of restaurants, lodging, and nightlife. There are plenty of fascinating historical locations, including the Polynesian Cultural Center, which allows visitors to experience a day in the life of the Polynesian culture in Hawaii. Guests can take a tour which often includes a true Hawaiian luau, as well as an exciting show featuring songs and dances which are a part of the Polynesian history. Visitors to Oahu also visit the Pearl Harbor Memorial, where guests can see photos and relics from the famous attack, and can remember the sacrifices that were made. In Oahu, a fun spot to visit is Sea Life Park, where guests can swim with dolphins and see the wonderful Hawaii marine life, which includes enormous sea turtles and penguins.

Maui has the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, where visitors can enjoy educational and fascinating shows, exhibits, events, and more which highlight the rich history and exciting future of Maui. The island of Hawaii is home to the University of Hawaii, as well as many waterfalls, gardens, and an exciting rainforest zoo featuring animals that visitors often will not be able to see in their hometown zoo.
