The Geography of The Pacific

The Pacific Islands are so much more than a group of islands. In fact, by some estimates there are as many as 30,000 islands that make up the grouping. The islands, which are located south of the Tropic of Cancer, are comprised of three major groups: Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia. Each of these distinct groups is noteworthy and unique. No trip through the Pacific Islands would be complete without at least one stop at each of the three groups.

Polynesia
Polynesia may very well contain the most famous of the Pacific Islands. Located within this grouping are New Zealand, Rotuma, The Hawaiian Islands, Midway Islands, American Samoa, Samoa, Tuvalu, Tonga, The Cook Islands and many more. Polynesia means, in fact, many islands. It is the largest of the three island groupings.

Melanesia
Melanesia, which means black islands, is also popular. Islands such as New Guinea (the largest of all the Pacific Islands), New Caledonia, the Solomon Islands and Fiji.

Micronesia
The “Small Islands,” or Micronesia, is full of many small islands, some of which are actually north of the equator. Islands in this group include Guam, Marianas, Wake Island, the Marshall Islands, Palau and the Federated States of Micronesia.

It is interesting to note that many of the islands are defined not by their own physical nature but by the archipelago they are a part of. Others use their political alliances to define them. Languages, of which many are similar, are distinct to the region and rely heavily on the glottal stop. Very few of the Pacific Island languages are written.

In some cases, the Pacific Islands are referred to as “Oceania” This definition is somewhat misleading as “Oceania” also includes the Malay Archipelago and Australasia. The Pacific Islands are a unique region of the world. Its many islands have created just as many cultures, traditions and languages.

How to Make a Six-Day Tour of England

If you want to see the sites of England but are pressed for time, consider this time line for a busy tour.

The Western Sweep. Fly into London, get a hotel, and rent a car. The next morning, drive west towards Winsdor Castle, Oxford, or Stratford-Upon-the-Avon for a half-day. After a few hours and lunch, head further west towards Bath. You can stop for dinner in Bristol before arriving at your bed and breakfast at a farm just outside Bath. The next morning, drive to the nearest Park-n-Ride, where you park your car outside Bath and take a bus to the heart of town, avoiding the cost and hassle of city parking. Spend the whole day and part of the next day visiting the Roman Baths, the fashion museum, Sally Lunn Bunns and Bath Abbey.

The Sweep Back East. After finishing the sites at Bath, swing by Stonehedge and the Salisbury Cathedral for a few hours before driving to the other side of England to Dover. Arrive at your next bed and breakfast in the country and take a walk in the beautiful countryside before calling it a day. The next morning, take a tour of the imposing Dover Castle (and consider taking a look at the famous Cliffs of Dover) before heading out to Canturbury to see the Canturbury Cathedral. Finally, turn toward London. Consider calling a train service or a traffic guide to help you avoid the awful traffic, using England’s information number, similar to Canada 411.

The London Adventure. If you miss traffic, you should be able to head downtown straight from Canturbury. However, be sure to return your car and start using the Tube for transportation. This should give you a day and a half to see the British museums, the many parks, the Thames river, Westminster Cathedral, Covent Gardens, Buckingham Palace, and maybe a show at Shakespeare’s Globe Theater.

Total Bankruptcy: Does Bankruptcy Stop Traveling?

NEW YORK - MAY 27: Lawyer Thomas Lauria, repre...

For those who are looking for a way to break free of the financial strains holding them back, one route to take is to file total bankruptcy, whether you file in New York or whether you’re thinking of filing bankruptcy in Texas. This will enable the individual to request that the bankruptcy court grant them a new opportunity to build a financial future when there is no other way to do so. However, this may affect your ability to travel.

Traveling is expensive and it can lead to significant increases in debt. For those who do not have the ability to fund a trip solely on cash reserves, it may be tempting to turn to credit cards to help the process. Yet, this can lead many into a financially difficult place.

For individuals who are considering filing bankruptcy, remember that traveling and other uses for discretionary income will play a role in whether you can file. The bankruptcy trustee will look at your debts as well as how you are spending money now. If you have the means to travel, the bankruptcy trustee may rule that you simply should not be spending the funds that way, but instead should be repaying creditors.
For those who file Chapter 13 bankruptcy, there is a three to five year period during which most of your discretionary income is being put aside to repay debt. During that time period, traveling, like other spending, is limited by the court.

Before you file bankruptcy, consider your goals with traveling and vacations. For some, filing bankruptcy could stop the process altogether. On the other hand, if you have just filed bankruptcy, working to build up the financial ability to travel can be an excellent goal for someone who has just paid down debt.
Make it your goal to come through bankruptcy and to build your financial future so that you can tour the world and do as you would like to, with this new opportunity at financial freedom.

What to See in Boston

Boston, Massachusetts is located approximately 365 miles from Baltimore, Maryland. This makes it possible for those people who live in many of the baltimore condos that are located in and around that area to visit Boston and enjoy many of its historical sites.

Within a few hours, Maryland residents can find themselves traveling the same road that Paul Revere did when he made his famous midnight ride; an event that is believed by some to be one of the pivotal moments in the Revolutionary War. Here, too, they can see the Old North Church from where the lanterns were hung signifying that the British were approaching by the sea route.

Other, more modern-day sites feature a bar that is actually named “Cheers,” just like the one made famous in the TV show of the same name. Another bar is also located here that was used for the exterior shots on the show. Both bars are real; they’re not just “prop” or “set” bars, and one of them is known for its enormous hamburgers. Maryland residents will have to find out for themselves which one it is.

While in the city, Maryland residents can pick up some souvenirs to take back home with them. With so many landmarks and attractions, both old and new, they should have no trouble finding those that fit right into the dcor of their homes. Old lamps or lanterns or beer steins, cocktail glasses, napkins, or coasters with the two bars featured, as well as other items, can all be good choices for mementos of the Boston trip.

With both cities located just a few hours away, it will be easy for Maryland residents to travel back and forth to Boston as often as they wish. When they do this, they can take advantage of all the restaurants, attractions, and other things that welcome tourists to Boston each and every day.

Traveling from the Pacific Islands? What About New York Condos for a Change of Pace?

Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve which is one of ...
Image via Wikipedia

Living in the Pacific Islands can be a beautiful experience. You’re in a more remote location, and the tropical look and feel of the place is just breathtaking. While it’s not for everyone, many people love it there. The weather is a big draw, because it’s so nice the majority of the time. Blue skies and clear water are abundant, and the rainfall, when it happens, is welcomed and needed. The temperatures are good, too. Overall, it’s a wonderful place to live – but there are downsides, just like there are with any place that you would choose to live and work.

One of the largest problems is that some people miss the hustle and bustle of larger cities. The idea of New York condos or an apartment in Paris appeals to them because they think they don’t have enough excitement in their lives. For people wanting a change from the island life, a large city would definitely be different. The sights, sounds, smells, and everything else are completely exotic when compared with a tropical island. Of course, the Pacific Islands have cities. They aren’t primitive places where people can’t get modern conveniences – they’re just not the same as a huge mega-city like New York.

Only you can decide which type of life you want, and you might want to alternate between the two places and spend part of your time in each one. The world is full of choices, and you’ll have to pick the ones that you feel the most comfortable and at home with. These might be very different from you than they would be for anyone else, but that’s all right. You can enjoy the city life or the island life – or both – as long as you’re happy and content with the choices that you’ve made.

Your Version of a Luxury Hotel Manhattan Has

It may feel like your dream vacation is just a few dollars and a few days off of work away for you to ever actually attain it. For some that dream vacation is a week in a luxury hotel Manhattan has but for others your dream destination speaks further away than that and is located somewhere in the warm bed of the Pacific Islands.

So how do you get yourself away from sitting at your computer dreaming about the day when you can set foot on the Islands to actually doing it? The answer is planning, planning, planning.

The first myth that should be erased is that it’s better to book as far in advance as possible. A lot of the time, this really isn’t the case. In the event that a hotel were giving away some insane deal that is not likely to ever happen again then booking a year in advance would make perfect sense but the reality is that most places don’t start raising their hotel rates unless you are looking to book the same day. And as far as airline travel is concerned it doesn’t matter unless it’s within a few weeks. So a good rule of thumb is to book 5 to 6 months out and you should be OK.

Be patient about where you book. Going with the top resort on an Island is nice but the difference between a 5 star resort and a 4 star resort isn’t that much. You would have to spend an extra couple hundred dollars just to stay there. Make the smart move and realize if the trip is as great as you say then you will have no reason to be sitting in a hotel room. Your trip to the Pacific Islands could be yours with just a little careful planning.

New Zealand

Located in the southwest area of the Pacific Ocean, New Zealand is a country of islands of about 900 miles of land. There are two major islands, North and South, and many smaller islands, some of which are not inhabited. Across the countries, the weather varies greatly from almost desert-like conditions in some parts, and plenty of rainfall and precipitation in others. The main islands are heavily populated, about 4.3 million people, and the standard of living of these inhabitants is quite high, compared to that in certain parts of Europe. Rugby is the most popular sport among the culture in New Zealand, as well as soccer, swimming, golf, cricket, and tennis.

Guests visiting New Zealand will certainly find plenty of activities to keep them busy. Biking is a popular activity, with guided tours between the islands and throughout the country offered daily. It is a fun and close-up way to see the beauties of the island life. There are many outdoor activities available, including bird watching, rafting, diving, fishing, golfing, water activities, swimming with marine life such as dolphins and whales, and shark cage diving, for the more adventurous visitors. English is the most common language, but generally the dialect is that of British English. There are many delicious meals that are specific to New Zealand that visitors definitely should incorporate as part of their travel experience. These include meat pies, Maori seafood, pavlova (a cake with fruit and whipped egg whites), and kumara (roasted sweet potatoes). There are also many breweries, so guests can sample freshly brewed beer with flavors unique to the islands. Lodging is often in bed and breakfast style, or Maori homestays, where guests stay with a local family, which give the visitor a very unique and firsthand look into the New Zealand experience. With so much to offer, New Zealand is becoming an ideal location for a tropical and fun vacation.
